Our Environmental Policy The protection of the environment is central to our approach. In accordance with this ethos we have developed an Environmental Management System (EMS) adhering to the guidelines outlined in ISO 14001 and EMAS initiatives. We were awarded full certification for both schemes in October 2003. We use this internal EMS to ensure full compliance with all relevant legislation (Duty of Care, Waste Management, WEEE directive, etc) so that customers, regulators and the wider community have full confidence in our stewardship of mobile handsets and peripherals.
Whilst we acknowledge the business benefits of our ‘greener’ outlook we must also state that the work involved in maintaining these high standards means that our environmental approach genuinely determines the direction of the company and cannot be dismissed as a ‘here today gone tomorrow’ publicity stunt. Our Environmental Management System calls for significant and continuous investment in terms of time, money, enthusiasm and perhaps most importantly dedication to the underlying improvement of the environment around us.
CMR have worked hard for the environment over the last two years, recycling in excess of 700,000 mobile phones which might otherwise have ended up in landfill site. Underpinning our activity is a formal and comprehensive environmental management system (EMS), which was certified to ISO 14001 and EMAS in October 2003.

The Landfill Directive The Environment Agency has a statutory responsibility for the regulation of landfill sites and has the primary responsibility for implementing the landfill regulations. They have introduced a Duty of Care a requirement ensuring that all business waste is handled and disposed of responsibly. Furthermore, the directive states that such waste should only be dealt with by authorised companies who record all wastes received or transferred through a system of signed Waste Transfer Notes.
